How We Find the Good Stuff
If you’ve ever fallen for a product because of a gorgeous ad or a glowing review, only to realize a few weeks later that it did absolutely NOTHING for you…welcome. You’re in the right place. We’ve all been there (many, many times), and that frustration is the whole reason Beauty Empties exists.
We don’t review products after using them for a week. We don’t care how pretty the packaging is. And we definitely don’t feature something just because a brand asked us to. What we DO care about is one thing: did you use it up and buy it again? That’s it. That’s the bar.
This is how we figure out what makes the cut.
We Go Deep on Repurchase Data
We read hundreds of reviews on Amazon, Sephora, and Ulta, filtering specifically for people who say “this is my 4th bottle.” We dig through beauty forums and online communities, and we pay close attention to what keeps selling out. A product that someone buys once might be good. A product someone buys five times? That tells you everything you need to know.
We Check With the Pros
Board-certified dermatologists, cosmetic chemists, licensed estheticians. The people who actually understand what ingredients do and (more importantly) what they DON’T do. If a product has a loyal following AND the experts back it up? That’s when we get excited. If it’s just hype with nothing behind it, we move on.
We Read the Ingredient Lists (So You Don’t Have To)
Marketing teams are VERY good at their jobs. “Clinically proven” can mean almost anything, and “dermatologist-tested” sometimes just means a dermatologist looked at it once (seriously). So we dig into what’s actually in the bottle: checking concentrations when brands share them, flagging potential irritants, and looking up what all those impossible-to-pronounce ingredients actually are. It’s not glamorous work, but somebody’s gotta do it!
We Care About How It Actually FEELS
You know that moisturizer that has amazing reviews but pills up under your sunscreen? Or that foundation that looks great for two hours and then settles into every line on your face? A product can look perfect on paper and be a pain to actually live with. We pay attention to the stuff that matters in real life, texture, scent, how it layers with other products, whether it holds up in the heat, and whether your partner says “what smells so good?” or makes a face.
We’re Honest About Partnerships
We use affiliate links (mostly Amazon), and when you buy through them, we earn a small commission. We’ll always be upfront about that! But a brand can’t pay to be featured here. The product still has to earn its spot the same way every other product does, by being something everyday people use up and replace. You can read our full affiliate disclosure for all the details.
We Update Our Picks
Formulas change. Brands get acquired. That miracle serum you loved two years ago might not be the same product today. When something changes, we update our recommendations. If a product we featured gets reformulated and the reviews start going downhill, we’ll tell you. No quietly pretending everything’s fine over here!
Have a product you’ve repurchased more times than you can count? We WANT to hear about it! Send it our way, your empties might end up on the site. There’s no better endorsement than “I’ve bought this six times.”
